Finding Gay Love and Keeping it in a Straight World
Friday, August 6th, 2010Finding gay love in a straight world can be anything but easy. Keeping it can actually be harder. This is especially true for guys who do not live in a well populated gay friendly area. Being a guy in today’s world can be a highly conflicting and confusing endeavor. Yet those who find the gumption to really be themselves are able to be strong and real.
There are still plenty of problems in society when it comes to gay love. Gay bashings are still part of the world we live in and they are a definite reality in which to be afraid of. We all know that these are never fair fights and that the target is usually singled out when alone and then jumped by numerous people. This isn’t a fight. This is cowardice that leaves the community in pain and afraid.
It is still possible to be safe, find the gay love that you’re looking for, and still be part of the straight world as necessary. We can go to work and be ourselves without being out or in the closet. When we simply show up as who we are, do our jobs well and create a good life for ourselves, there are plenty of people that don’t really give our sexuality much thought.
In reality, unless you live in an area where there is a strong community, you are either heading to the bar or you’re looking online. Online affairs are often the ones that the closeted man is afraid of because there can be potential consequences. It’s very rare that you actually end up meeting someone you already know. It’s also not necessary to post your photo but to send one along in an email. Obviously, you want to be sure that the guy you’re trading photos with knows that you’re not looking to be heavily outed.
In so many ways the world is slowly starting to change. You and a partner will have varying challenges that you’ll face. The big thing is to know that you’re not alone. There are other guys that are living in the same area that you are and that are also looking for that love. As you start to experience even a limited community you can develop a much stronger partnership that is based in honesty.
Being gay doesn’t necessarily mean that you announce yourself to the world. In some cases, this isn’t recommended. Some guys want that freedom and if that’s on your plate then by all means find a way. But there are also plenty of guys that the straight world can’t see as gay or straight because they simply are just who they are.
